"Tampa singer-songwriter Ken Spivey and some friends have banded together - horrible pun definitely intended - to raise a little scratch for The Spring, an organization dedicated to protecting to victims of domestic violence. In addition to Spivey and his folk-poppy band you'll get sets from Lorna Bracewell, Christie Lenee, Michele Agius..."

"Tampa singer-songwriter Ken Spivey's got a new disc coming out; naturally, he didn't tell us what it was called, but he did let us know that a bunch of local artists will be helping him celebrate its birth tonight at USF's Crosswinds. Ken will be joined by partner Augusta as well as Jeremy Gloff, Redliners, Christie Lenee & Orenda, Stacy Halter, The Seed, Noiretblanc w/Michele Agius, and KORE. Some of the take will be going to help send underprivileged kids to summer camp, as well. (University of South Florida, Tampa)"

"I'm like the guy you talk to at the end of the bar who tells you about all his bad relationships. Only I have a guitar."
The Weekly Planet - 9/29/04
"Spivey mixes a clichéd but pretty cool proto-rock/rockabilly vibe with lo-fi drum-machine beats and self-consciously clever lyrics. The result is novel enough, and a tune like "Sexy Hairdresser" would sound just fine in the middle of one of WMNF's afternoon drive-time programs...."

The Ken Spivey cd, Time can be so cruel, is one of the most amazing pieces of local music I've ever heard. If it were not for the way the cd was packaged I would of thought that this was a professionally done cd. He starts out strong with Sexy Hairdresser and at no point does he ever let down with that energy. Just hearing some of the songs he plays on album make you want to get up dance along with it. It has its slower moments such as with the title track and you can hear the emotion that he throws into the music there. This is one cd I could honestly see myself listening to with a group of friends on any occasion. Just got with a girlfriend? It's kicking. Just broke up with a girlfriend? It will console. Just turned gay? Play Feminine Side as a coming out song. There is not a bad track on this cd albeit the cd is rather short (my only complaint) Highly recommended. I can't wait to hear more from Ken Spivey.
Standout tracks! - All of them
